International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria

The International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria ( Bacteriological Code ) ( ICNB, International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria ( Bacteriological Code ) ) regulates the production of scientific names of prokaryotes. The nomenclature of the bacteriological codes will be published on the website of the NCBI. It is a component of the biological nomenclature.

By 1975, the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature ( ICBN ) was used for naming bacteria. At the fourth International Congress of Microbiology in 1947 approved a code but it was not wide spread. As a starting point for the code currently in force January 1, 1980 has been agreed.

Currently, the code is monitored and published by the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes ( ICSP ). In the future, the code International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes to be called. A bacterial nomenclature up-to -date is to see at the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ ).
