International Law Association

The International Law Association (ILA ) is a nonprofit international non-governmental organization whose mission is the dissemination and development of international law and private international law. In particular, it supports the training as well as academic research in these areas of law and acts in an advisory capacity in the field of codification and the practical application of international law. The current headquarters of the Organization, which was founded in 1873 in the Belgian city of Brussels, London. The ILA is one of the oldest non-governmental organizations (NGOs ) in history and has consultative status with a number of specialized agencies of the United Nations.

The International Law Association has about 3,700 individuals as members in some 50 national associations ( Branches) are organized. Membership in the national association is open to all people who have a deep interest in international law and are willing to work for international understanding and respect for international law. The supreme body is the Executive Board ( Executive Council). Are applicable to their activities within the ILA currently 24 different thematic committees, an important forum for the exchange are beyond the bi -annual conferences. Specific current topics such as draft contracts or cooperation with other international organizations are also treated in temporary work groups consisting usually of ten to twelve experts selected by the Board.
