International Law Commission

The International Law Commission (English International Law Commission, ILC ) is a subsidiary organ of the UN. Created in 1947 established by the UN General Assembly on the development and codification of international law. Mainly it deals with the elaboration of draft convention. Many of these designs are among the foundations of international law and form the working basis of most human rights organizations and other secondary and special organs of the UN.

The Commission consists of 34 independent legal experts. They are elected for a term of 5 years and represent the principal legal systems of the world. The written reports of the Commission and designs are selected in part by herself. Most subjects are but approached with by the General Assembly or by the UN Economic and Social Council at her.

The Commission's work extends to almost all international legal issues, such as for state sovereignty, the human rights, diplomatic and consular relations, economic relations, contract law, maritime law and international criminal law.
