International Music Score Library Project

The IMSLP mainly contains scans of old sheet music editions that are no longer subject to the copyright, unlike the Mutopia project, new on the computer which contains only notes will. In some cases it may be expired only in the United States or Canada the copyright or copyright, but not in other countries. The project is also from a musicological point of view of interest, because often there are several different, partly historical editions of a work available.

In addition to public domain scores are also those approved by contemporary composers who are under a Creative Commons license. Musical exchange of ideas in the discussion pages about the individual pieces of music have explicitly requested. A multilingual discussion forum is also available.

One of the main projects of IMSLP is to sort and upload the complete works of Bach in the Bach-Gesellschaft edition ( 1851-1899 ). On 3 November 2008, this project was declared completed.

In October 2007, the founder of the project closed the site at the moment, after he had received a cease and desist notice to the Universal Edition of Vienna, which was offended their copyright. Since 30 June 2008, the project continues.
