Ottaviano Petrucci

Ottaviano dei Petrucci ( born June 18, 1466 Fossombrone at Urbino; † May 7, 1539 in Venice ) was an Italian printer and the first major music publishers. He is an important representative of the Venetian printing house.

Petrucci invented the note printing by movable metal types, and thus determined the course of music history. The patent for the printing music he received from the Venetian Republic in 1498, he had to sell it but due to expensive experiments. The two-part process (first the staves, then carefully the notes thereon) is very fine and precise. Examples are in the collection of the British Museum. His collection of trade fairs; " Harmonice Musices Odhecaton A " (published on May 15, 1501) was the first polyphonic music that was printed.

The International Music Score Library Project named his music collection in July 2008 in " Petrucci Music Library " to.
