International Poetry Incarnation

The International Poetry Incarnation ( German: International personification of poetry ) was a poetry reading, which took place at London's Royal Albert Hall on 11 June 1965. The event, which was attended by poets of the counter-culture from the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries, is considered the turning point of the UK underground culture.

When Michael Horovitz and Alexander Trocchi heard that the U.S. beat poet Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Gregory Corso were staying in London, she decided to organize a large-scale reading. It was found that the Royal Albert Hall was 10 days later released.

Despite the short preparation time were estimated 7,000-8,000 visitors to listen to the 17 poets, including Adrian Mitchell, Alexander Trocchi, Allen Ginsberg, Harry Fainlight, Anselm Hollo, Christopher Logue, George Macbeth, Gregory Corso, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Michael Horovitz, Simon Vinkenoog, Spike Hawkins, Tom McGrath and Ernst Jandl. William S. Burroughs was recorded by tape. The guitarist Davy Graham played some titles. Ginsberg reciting from his poem Howl.
