International Reading Association

The International Reading Association (IRA ) (English International Reading Society) is an international nonprofit organization that was created in 1956 to improve reading instruction, to enable a dialogue on the reading research and to encourage people to read. It is a global network of individuals and institutions that are committed to literacy worldwide.

Organization

This organization, based in Newark, Delaware, USA, has over 60,000 members worldwide. Its president is Carrice Cummins from Louisiana Tech University and its Director Marcie Craig Post.

IRA targets

The IRA wants to achieve through the provision of resources, lobbying, volunteering and vocational support the following objectives:

  • Dissemination of research findings and information on reading
