International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC ), to 1942 International Rescue and Relief Committee ( IRRC ), is an international aid organization for refugees and victims of war. It gives Freedom Award annually.
The IRC was founded in 1933 at the suggestion of Albert Einstein to assist refugees from the Nazi regime. Today it supports the one hand refugees in the U.S. under the U.S. refugee resettlement program, on the other hand, it is in crisis areas around the globe. Overall, the IRC (as of summer 2008) operates in over 30 countries.
