International Standard Bibliographic Description

The ISBD (English: International Standard Bibliographic Description = International standard for bibliographic data description ) is a standard, an international format, which is supervised by IFLA. The ISBD format allows a uniform description of library materials in connection with the library collection. The latest version of the ISBD was introduced in 2007. The IFLA has its own working group, which is responsible for the development of the ISBD.

The original core idea behind the ISBD format was to develop a bibliographic standard for international data exchange.
