Internet Systems Consortium

The Internet Systems Consortium (ISC; formerly Internet Software Consortium ) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1994. Originally founded as a spin-off of the University of Berkeley for the development of DNS server software BIND, ISC stands today also responsible for the operation of the root name server with the designation F- root and the development of a number of free software projects.

As an additional task, the ISC monitors the global DNS, and regularly host and domain counts by. In such counts ( Internet Domain Survey), the entire DNS tree is worked and recorded each identified host and each domain in the statistics. The results are available to anyone on the ISC web site.

2003 of the ISC Crisis Coordination Center OARC (Domain Name System Operations, Analysis, and Research Center, DNS OARC ) was established, which has taken on the task of ensuring the stability of the global DNS. OARC constantly at traffic analysis and throughput measurements, acting as coordinator in attacks and is the contact for questions of DNS security.

The headquarters of the Organization is located in Redwood City.
