Interspinales muscles

The Musculi interspinous (Latin for " intermediate spinous muscles," Singular interspinalis musculus ) are short skeletal muscles of the spine that connect interspinous the spinous processes of adjacent vertebrae on either side of the ligament. They belong together with the musculus spinalis, within the " local standing back muscles " to interspinous system ( Systema interspinous ).

Depending on location three section can be distinguished:

  • The four Musculi interspinous lumborum lie in the lumbar spine.
  • The Musculi interspinous thoracis are usually poorly developed and are in the thoracic region between the first two thoracic vertebrae, sometimes also between the second and third and eleventh and twelfth.
  • The six Musculi interspinous cervical range of the cervical spine from the second to seventh cervical vertebrae.
  • Skeletal muscle of the trunk
  • Spinal column
  • Skeletal muscle of the neck
