Inti-Illimani

Inti Illimani, is a Chilean music group that exists in different compositions since 1967. The name means " sun - Illimani " in Quechua.

History

In 1967, students founded the Universidad Técnica del Estado (today Universidad de Santiago de Chile, USACH ) the group, under the impact of the initiative, launched by Violeta Parra and Victor Jara neo- folk movement Nueva Canción Chilena. Their work was based on the musical folklore of the South American countries (particularly the Andean folklore ), the content they positioned themselves clear on the left and supported the election campaign and government of socialist Salvador Allende. During the military coup in 1973, Inti Illimani, was on a tour of Italy, the members of the re-entry was denied. By 1989, the group spent in the Italian exile, during this time she gained through many tours and the solidarity movement with Chile a high global recognition.

In addition to a core group of members, among whom were in the 70s and 80s, the musical director Horacio Salinas, the brothers Jorge and Marcelo Coulon, Horacio Durán, José Seve and the Ecuadorians Max BERRU, musicians joined again for a limited time in the group. From the year 1993, when Max BERRU left the group, a phase of regeneration began. In 2004, the brothers Coulon were only " left ", some of the other musicians for many years but were part of the group.

For the crisis came when in 2004 the ex-members Salinas, Seve and Durán after more or less successful singles careers got together with other musicians and claimed to be the "true Inti - Illimani ", as they are the originator of the most important compositions. Because the Coulon group not accepted, it came to a lawsuit. As a result of mediation, the musicians are allowed to Salinas now refer to as " Inti Illimani Histórico - ".
