Inverse multiplexer

A demultiplexer or DEMUX short (s) is the equivalent of a multiplexer. To the demultiplexer, an input signal to one of a plurality of outputs is connected. The controller has the demultiplexer control inputs, which are necessary for the switching its switch. This switching can be static or periodically or cyclically, then sets but always a timing between the switch position of multiplexers and demultiplexers advance. Ensuring the temporal relationship requires special synchronization facilities.

Time division demultiplexer

With the aid of multiplexers multiple independent data channels, such as telephone lines without interference on a single channel, such as an electrical link or can be transmitted over a radio channel. This multiplexing method is also temporal division multiplexing or time division multiplexing (TDM ), since the individual information channels are transmitted in time, a periodic sequence. Characterized the required bandwidth is increased to the transmission channel to a multiple of the individual streams: For N inputs, this is at least N times the bandwidth.

Digital demultiplexer

The demultiplexer in digital technology is usually implemented as a switched mode power in specific components. Demultiplexer means, serial, digital data streams are divided into several parallel digital outputs for further processing. The demultiplexer is the foundation of any serial for parallel data conversion as it applies also for serial interfaces. In addition, microprocessor systems demultiplexer also be used as selectors for selecting various input or output units of the memory, to route data streams accordingly.

Demultiplexing of video data streams

From demultiplexing ( demux ) is also called in the context of video data streams. For most of video formats the information to the images, to the sound and possibly to additional data such as the division of the film into chapters and subtitles, has been joined by a multiplex method to a data stream. The separation of this information is also referred to as a demultiplexing.
