Ioannis Grivas

Ioannis Grivas (Greek Ιωάννης Γρίβας, born February 23, 1923 in Kato Tithorea, Fthiotida Prefecture) is a Greek judge. He was briefly prime minister in 1989.

Grivas graduated in law at the University of Athens and was a judge since 1954. Later was a judge of the court that the leaders of the military dictatorship from 1967 to 1974 condemned. In 1979 he was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court ( Arios Pagos ) and went there in 1986 as Vice President on. As such, he was also chairman of the Special Court for sentencing of vice-ministers of the PASOK government from 1985 to 1987 after they were involved in a business scandal. He eventually became President of the Supreme Court in 1989.

Since neither PASOK nor New Democracy ( ND) in the National Assembly a working majority brought about, Grivas was after the resignation of Prime Minister Tzannis Tzannetakis on October 11, 1989 pursuant to the Constitution Prime Minister of the transitional government. After PASOK and ND were unable to achieve majorities capable of government in the subsequent elections, Grivas resigned on 23 November 1989 back in favor of Xenophon Zolotas, which formed a coalition government of the three represented in the National Assembly parties.

1990 Grivas resigned as president of the Supreme Court.
