Iota Ursae Majoris

Ursae Majoris ι ( Iota Ursae Majoris, short ι UMa ) is a 47 light-years distant from the Sun star system in the constellation Ursa Major. The main star of the system belongs to the spectral class A7 and has an apparent magnitude of 3.1 mag.

The star bears the historical proper names Talitha Borealis; the Arabic name Talitha means " the Third ( leap of the gazelle ) ," the Latin borealis means "north ".

Trivia

The occasionally encountered name Dnoces for this star is of modern origin and goes to a joke made by the Apollo astronauts Virgil " Gus" Grissom back, the names of the Apollo 1 crew as " Navi" ( for Virgil Ivan Grissom ), " Dnoces " ( for Edward H. White the second) and " Regor " ( Roger Chaffee ) smuggled to a list of navigation stars.
