Ivy Morning Glory (Ipomoea hederacea )

The Ivy Morning Glory (Ipomoea hederacea ) is a plant of the genus morning glories (Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants ( Convolvulaceae ).

Description

The ivy morning glory is an annual vine that grows up to four feet long. The crown is two to four inches long. The leaves are ovate and all or three-lobed, sometimes five-lobed. The coronary band is blue, purple or white in color and has a diameter of two to three, rarely up to 3.5 centimeters. The sepals narrowing toward the tip linear gradually. While the fruit time the tip of the sepals is far bent back.

The flowering period extends from July to September.

Occurrence

The species is occurs in tropical and subtropical America.

Use

The Ivy Morning Glory is rarely used as an ornamental plant for trellises and window boxes. The species is in cultivation since at least 1597.
