IPPOLIT

Ippolit is a series of open source chess programs. They are have been published under the following names (in chronological order):

  • Ippolit ( released in May 2009)
  • Robbolito
  • Igorrit
  • Fire

The programmer of the engines mostly work under pseudonyms, their identity is largely unknown.

Fire was 1.2 in March 2010 as the strongest chess program in the world for common PCs. Meanwhile, Houdini has taken their place.

However, the programs are not implemented in some computer chess rankings, because it is assumed that they are clones of the formerly strongest commercial chess engine Rybka. Vasik Rajlich pointed out in this connection that he had learned in early 2009 of " a sort of open source clone" of Rybka 3 and it is clear from the Ippolit source codes that they are based on a decompiled version of Rybka. Evidence can not submit Rajlich, without having to disclose its own source code. The developers say to that, that the alleged clone is significantly stronger than the game allegedly plagiarized original and beyond Concerning operative over a significant greater functionality. Almost all of today's popular chess programs based on similar alpha-beta algorithms and many ideas of older chess programs. The very different skill level has its basis but in very effective extensions that have been devised by different developers in later years and to the present day.
