Iran Air Flight 277

The Boeing 727 a few days before the disaster

Iran Air Flight 277 was a domestic scheduled flight of the Iranian airline, Iran Air, the 9 January 2011 against 19:45 clock local time ( 16:15 UTC ) during poor weather conditions for a go-around in the vicinity of the airport Urmia in the province West Azerbaijan lost height in the extreme northwest of Iran and then had contact with the ground. Then the machine broke up into several parts. The aircraft, which was located on the road from Tehran Mehrabad - Airport to Urmia, it was a Boeing 727-286 Adv ( anced ).

Aircraft

The aircraft used at the time of the accident at the airport was built in 1974. However, initial reports emphasized different information about the crashed plane; according to them, it was stated that a Fokker 100 or a Boeing 727 had crashed, but finally it was confirmed that it is 727- 286Adv acted to Boeing with the air vehicle registration EP- IRP.

Course

The aircraft was on a flight between Tehran and Urmia and crashed after a good start to near the airport Urmia near a lake from. The aircraft had aborted the first landing attempt and was due to start after the crew had reported technical problems and stated, so not being able to land under these weather conditions and want to begin the return to Tehran. At the time of the accident, there was poor visibility and it was snowing. [Note 1] After the impact, the aircraft broke into several pieces, but there was no fire and no explosion.

Passengers and crew

77 people on board were killed in the accident, 27 were injured. The rescue operations were difficult because of heavy snowfall in the area, according to authorities representative of the snow depth was at the crash site about 70 centimeters. In the rescue measures 36 ambulances and eleven health facilities in the area were involved.
