Iraqi National Congress

The Iraqi National Congress (Arabic المؤتمر الوطني العراقي al - al - Watani Motammar al-' Iraqi, Iraqi National Congress [INC ] ) is a party founded in 1992, similar organization, which is led by Ahmad Chalabi.

History

The organization was founded after the Second Gulf War, with the financial support of the U.S. government under President George HW Bush. The aim was to overthrow Saddam Hussein.

The INC was formed originally as an umbrella organization of various opposition groups, whose members were mostly living in exile politicians. The headquarters of the organization was London. In INC. Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites, nationalists and former generals gather. The INC is led by secular Shiite Chalabi and understood generally as a secular organization.

In 1995, the INC involved in a coup attempt against Saddam Hussein, which was supported by the U.S. intelligence service CIA.

After the Third Gulf War and the end of the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, the INC took part in the election for the National Assembly on 30 January 2005. The candidates of INC competed on the predominantly Shiite United Iraqi Alliance list, which emerged as the winner of the election.

The INC - chairman Chalabi was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq and thus deputy of Ibrahim al - Jaafari.
