Irene of Hungary
Piroska of Hungary (Hungarian: Szent Piroska, * 1088, † August 13, 1134 ) was the daughter of the Hungarian King Ladislaus I and his wife Adelaide of Swabia. It was 1104, the wife of the later Byzantine Emperor John II Komnenos as part of a political and dynastic balance between Byzantium and Hungary. With her marriage she took the name of Irene and the Orthodox faith. She played in politics only a minor role and devoted her life besides her eight children ( including the future emperor Manuel I ) mainly the Christian faith. In the Orthodox Church she is venerated as a saint.
