Irene Reid

Irene Reid ( born September 23, 1930 in New York City; † January 4, 2008 there ), was an American jazz singer.

In 1948 she won the talent contest at the Apollo Theater. Then it belonged to the band of Dick Vance. In 1961 she became a member of the Count Basie Orchestra, with whom she toured and recorded disks. Then she founded Irene Reid & Co and recorded under his own name for MGM and Verve Records. With albums like "Room for One More " (1965, with Oliver Nelson) and "It 's Too Late" (1966 ) she became famous. She also worked with Lalo Schifrin. With "The World Needs What I Need " (1971) she was unable to connect to these successes, however, occurred on, among other things, accompanied by Mike Carr's Blue Note Quartet. Only after a further album in 1989, she received again a greater recognition; she took on a further 6 albums for Savant.
