Grass Iris (Iris graminea )

The Grass Iris (Iris graminea ), and Grass-leaved iris, grass - iris, plum fragrance Iris or Iris Plum called, is a species of the genus Iris (Iris ). The variety Iris graminea var pseudocyperus ( Schur ) Beck since at least 1568 as cultivated. They can now be found as an ornamental plant dispersed in rebates.

Features

The grass - Sword lily is a perennial herbaceous plant with a rhizome, the plant height 15 to 30, rarely up to 40 centimeters reached. The stalk is compressed on average, pithy, erect, sparsely branched, double-edged and much shorter than the leaves. The parallel venation leaves are 35 to 100 centimeters long and 0.5 to 1.5 inches wide and occur after the heyday flat on the floor. They are in two rows, riding and grassy.

The one to two flowers smell sweet like fruit. The plate of the hanging leaves is short, white and veined violet, the nail is much longer and wider. The Domblätter are purple, 2.5 to 4 inches long and 0.5 inches wide.

The variety Iris graminea var pseudocyperus has fragrant flowers and loose is greater.

Bloom time is in May, partly in June.

The chromosome number is n = 17

Occurrence

This type comes from Northern Spain and Southern France to the Balkans, in Western Ukraine and in south-central Europe in semi-arid grassland and sparse bushes in front. In Germany it is considered naturalized neophyte.
