Great Bearded Iris (Iris magnifica)

The Great Bearded Iris (Iris magnifica ) is a plant of the genus Iris (Iris ) within the family of Iris Family ( Iridaceae ).

Features

The Great Sword lily is a perennial bulbous plant, which reaches stature heights of 25 to 60 centimeters. The stems limbs are visible in the heyday. The leaves are 3 to 5 inches wide and shiny green. The nail is forward greatly broadened to 2.5 to 3 centimeters. The plate is narrower than the nail. It has on both sides of the ridge to a yellow -white zone. The Domblätter are 2 to 3 inches long, verkehrteiförmig and horizontally to bent down. The 3-7 flowers have a diameter up to 7.5 inches and are blue-gray to pale violet colored, sometimes white.

The flowering period is in April, rarely enough to May.

Occurrence

The Great Sword lily occurs in the mountains of Samarkand on fine earth poor sites and in the Kalkfelsspalten the lower mountain zone in the Pamir.

Use

The Great Sword lily is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. It is in culture at least since 1880.
