Irish traditional music session

In Irish folk a session is a casual meeting and playing music by musicians who have dedicated themselves to the traditional Irish music. Sessions are usually in the traditional Irish pubs, the so-called pubs instead. When musicians invite their colleagues and friends to your home, this is called mostly kitchen session.

Expiration

Sessions are based on a basic repertoire of tunes, which is known to every musician. This repertoire is complemented by new or rarer tunes, which often results in a very lively exchange of new tunes. Popular Tunes can be transferred into the standard repertoire then soon.

The game is played not by grades, but by ear and out of the head, which often acts very challenging for inexperienced session musician and the listener. In fact, it is so that a potential band members at least partially has to master the basic repertoire. The common between all musicians is often interrupted by solos. So songs can be carried forward by a musician (and possibly gently accompanied ) are or player of uilleann pipes are often asked to solo due to the sonority of their instrument.

There are also sessions on which almost exclusively songs are sung (song or ballad session session).

Other music genres

The idea of the session is by no means limited to Celtic music. It can be found in almost every country that has an active folk-music scene. Besides Ireland, this is especially the case in England, Scotland, France and Spain. The processes are there very similar in each case.

Sessions are also known, such as a jam session in jazz. Drain and manners are similar to Irish Folk Sessions.
