Irma Stern

Irma Stern (* 1894 in Schweizer- Reneke, South Africa, † August 23, 1966 in Cape Town) was a South African artist.

Irma Stern's parents Richard and Frieda Feldman, were considered left-wing intellectuals in Johannesburg. 1913 studied star in the Academy of Weimar, 1914 Levin Funcke studio and from 1917 together with Max Pechstein, a co-founder of the so-called November Group. Their first show was star in Berlin in 1919, she had a total of nearly 100 exhibitions in South Africa and Europe. In addition to images, they also created sculptures. From 1926 lived Star in Cape Town.

Appreciation

Since 1971 there is an Irma Stern Museum in Cape Town.
