Irma Urteaga

Irma Urteaga ( born March 7, 1929 in San Nicolás de los Arroyos ) is an Argentine composer and pianist.

Life

Urteaga studied at the Conservatory of Buenos Aires piano with María Lucrecia de Madariaga Gilardi, Josefa Hernandorena and Jorge Fanelli, composition with Roberto Caamano and Valdo Sciammarella, Roberto García Morillo and instrumentation in music history with Carlos and Alicia Terzian Sufern. She was here in 1959 the title of Professor of Piano and 1971 the gold medal in composition. An education in choral and orchestral conducting, she received Jacobo Ficher, Enrico Sivieri, Jorge Fontenla and Carlos Malloyer at the Instituto Superior de Arte of the Teatro Colón. Private lessons, she brought along with Isaac Weinstein and Roberto Kinsky.

She taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música Carlos López Buchardo and at the Instituto Superior de Arte. At the Teatro Colón, she worked as Maestra internals and director ( 1974-77 ) and director of the opera workshop. For the Fundación Opera del Ecuador, she organized the sport seasons, from 1986 to 1988 in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca.

She was also Vice- secretary (1973-1980) and Vice President (1997-2003) of the Asociación Argentina de Compositores and secretary of the Consejo Argentino de la Música ( CAMU, 1985-1993 ) and is Vice President of Foro Argentino de Compositoras ( FADEC). She composed an opera and ballets, orchestral works, chamber music, piano and choral works and songs.
