Iron Angel is a company established in Hamburg in 1980 Heavy Metal band.

History

The band formed in 1980 in the wake of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, under the, borrowed from Judas Priest Metal Gods name. At that time there was only a relatively small circle in Germany. Right unsuccessful, the band played a series of concerts until they finally renamed in 1983 in Iron Angel.

The renaming took place simultaneously with the entry of Speed ​​and Power Metal in Germany. In 1984, the band released three demo recordings, which eventually led to a record deal with Steamhammer Records. There, Iron Angel, published in 1985 their debut album Hellish Crossfire. The album has a very raw power metal with nods to the Thrash Metal.

Winds of War, who published in 1986 successor, was severely torn by the critics. Was particularly critical of the change in style of the band. The first album, mainly focused on speed, while the successor melodic and technically demanding turned out very much.

Shortly after its release, the band broke up on the issue, as the style of music itself should now develop. Some of the members wanted to go more into the hair metal direction, while the other members wanted to continue the style of Hellish Crossfire.

Mike Matthes and Dirk Schröder later played together in the group JR Blackmore Group and Superstition, both projects by Ritchie Blackmore's son Jürgen Richard Blackmore.

Reunification

2000 the band started making a comeback. While working on the album Rebirth guitarist Peter Wittke died in a car accident. 2004 appeared the live albums The Tapes and Rush for power and self-distributed the band or on a small record label. The record label Painkiller Records released two albums and the live album The Tapes 2005 in a new version with bonus tracks. The band Iron Angel, which was now only from Dirk Schroeder and Mike Matthes, published in May 2007, the self-production Back from Hell. On 27 October 2007, the band broke up after problems on the reoccupation.
