Irving Gertz

Irving Gertz ( born May 19, 1915 in Providence, Rhode Iceland, † 14 November 2008 in Los Angeles ) was an American film composer, mainly for his work in science fiction and horror B-movies of the 1950s and 1960s was known.

Life

Gertz attended Providence College of Music and learned clarinet, piano, double bass and tuba. Later he took lessons with the composer and music theorist Walter Piston. In 1938 he was put under contract by Columbia Pictures, then stepped in, however, after the outbreak of the Second World War for five years in the U.S. Army. After the war he took lessons with Mario Castelnuovo- Tedesco, and wrote in 1947 the first music for Columbia films. After a short period at NBC Radio, he joined the cause 1950s to Universal Studios, where he stood until the late 1950s under contract. In 1960 he moved to 20th Century Fox. In 1966 he was hired as a substitute for a prevented colleagues from Warner Bros. for the Daffy Duck cartoon Daffy Rents, this remained his only work on an animated film. In 1968, Gertz moved to retire back to this time he had music for over 200 films (including the Jack Arnold Classic Came from Outer Space and The Incredible Mister C. ) and television series such as The Seaview - A secret mission and invasion written by Vega, although he was often not mentioned in the credits.
