Irwin Cotler

Irwin Cotler OC ( born May 8, 1940 in Montreal ) is a Canadian politician from the Liberal Party of Canada.

Life

Cotler studied law at McGill University and at Yale University. After his studies he worked as a lawyer in 1973 and received an appointment as professor of law at McGill University. He became a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. 1999 succeeded him for Port Royal the catchment as a deputy in the Canadian House of Commons. As the successor to Martin Cauchon Cotler was from 2003 to 2006 Minister of Justice of Canada in the Cabinet of Paul Martin. Cotler is married with Ariela Cotler. Today he is a committee member of the pro-Israel lobby organization UN Watch.
