Isa Yunis oglu Qəmbər ( alternative spelling Isa Yunis oglu Azerbaijani Qämbär; former Russian form of the name Issa Gambarov; born February 24, 1957 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR ) is an Azerbaijani politician and leader of Equality Party ( Musavat Partiyası ), one of the strongest opposition parties.

Life

After graduating in 1974 at the University # 62 in Baku İsa Qəmbər graduated in 1979 graduated from the history department at the State University of Baku ( BSU). He then worked from 1979 to 1982 at the Nakhchivan Research. Then Qəmbər 1982-1990 worked at the Azerbaijan Academy of Science and Research at the Institute of Oriental Studies.

İsa Qəmbər speaks Azerbaijani, English, Russian and Turkish. He is married and has two sons. His wife Aide Bagirova has a PhD historian who works as a lecturer at the State University in Baku.

Policy

İsa Qəmbər is the founder of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan ( PFA); between 1989 and 1991 he was its director from 1990 to 1991 and its Vice Chairman. In 1990 Qəmbər was a Member of Parliament and 1991-1992 Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations. In 1992 he was by the Congress Committee on renewals (of Musavat, one of the strongest opposition parties ) elected chairman. In May 1992, the election of the Speaker of the Parliament ( National Assembly ) was performed.

As of June 16, 1992 was İsa Qəmbər current President of Azerbaijan. He prepared the country for democratic elections. On 13 June 1993, the resignation was through detachment, through the democratically elected president of Azerbaijan. On 16 July 1993 Qəmbər was the rebel armed forces, led by Heydər Əliyev, seized power, arrested.

In 1999, was co-founder Qəmbər and from 2001 to 2003 Chairman of the Democratic Congress, which included all the leading political parties of Azerbaijan. In 2000 he was called " A Friend of Journalists " ( "a friend of the press " ) awarded. 2003 was Qəmbər single presidential candidate for the opposition electoral bloc " Bizim Azərbaycan " ( "Our Azerbaijan "), which united more than 30 parties.
