Isabella of Coimbra

Isabel of Portugal (* 1432, † December 2, 1455 in Évora ) was from 1447 until her death Queen of Portugal.

Isabel was born as the daughter of the Duke of Coimbra, Portugal Peter and Isabel of Aragon, Countess of Urgell, a subsidiary of King James II of Aragon.

She married in 1447 King Alfonso V of Portugal and was appointed by the marriage to the queen (as wife, not as regent in its own right ). Reports of inbreeding could not be proved. Isabel died suddenly eight months after the birth of her last child at the age of 23 years. The circumstances of her death are therefore controversial.

She had three children, including King John II of Portugal and the Blessed Joan of Portugal.
