Ísafjarðardjúp

The Ísafjarðardjúp (German Eisfjordtiefe ) is the largest fjord in Iceland's Westfjords region.

It cuts about 75 km inland and is a branched into many side fjords. With the extension of the fjord Isafjordur, in which he goes, it measures about 120 km.

In the fjord are some islands. The largest are Vigur, Æðey (near Snæfjallaströnd ) and Borgarey ( in Isafjordur fjord ). In the north of Ísafjarðardjúp are the solitary and completely uninhabited peninsula Hornstrandir, a popular hiking area, and Snæfjallaströnd where the whole year is above the snow ( below the glacier Drangajökull about 620 km ²).
