Isaías Samakuva

Isaías Henrique Ngola Samakuva ( born July 8, 1946 in Kunje, Bié ) is an Angolan politician and the current President of the UNITA, the main opposition party in Angola.

Life

Isaías Samakuva was educated by missionaries in his home. He graduated in 1974, with 28 years of UNITA to. After the 27-year civil war, he took up the position as head of UNITA but only in 2003, after he had been elected at the ninth congress of his party. In 2007, he was confirmed in a further UNITA Congress for a second term.

Previously Samakuva was 1989-1994 and again from 1998 to 2002 UNITA 's ambassador to Europe. After UNITA leader Jonas Savimbi and his designated successor, António Dembo to the direct injury of a firefight died with Angolan government troops in February 2002, he was head of the UNITA leadership and transformed these in the meantime in a peaceful opposition party in Angola to.

Samakuva was the top candidate on the list of UNITA in the parliamentary elections in September 2008. Though UNITA bad section (of a possible 220 seats won only 16) in the parliamentary elections, he won a seat in the National Assembly. First, the party raised public objections because of serious problems during the electoral process; Samakuva was, however, announced in September 2008 that UNITA accepted the election results. The Standing Committee of the UNITA then met to discuss the outcome of the election and to accept the leadership of Isaías Samakuva. This happened on 19 September 2008. The statement further stated that the party pointed the blame for the poor performance of UNITA in particular on abuses of the ruling MPLA.

As today the supreme leader of Unita Samakuva was elected with a mandate to modernize his party to be selectable for future elections to the National Assembly and the President Office of the Angolan population alternative.
