Ishiyama-dera

Ishiyama -dera (Jap.石 山寺) is a Buddhist temple in the city of Otsu Cities. He is one of the 33 temples on the pilgrimage route Saigoku.

Overview

The temple was built around the year 762 by the priest robes. First, the temple of the Kegon direction of the Todai -ji was a member, moved to the middle Heian period then the Shingon and enjoyed great veneration of the imperial family and the court nobility. The court lady Murasaki Shikibu is supposed to have in a hermitage in the year 1000 the novel, which has become known as Genji Monogatari in the history of literature written there. [Note 3]

The temple district includes a slope with strikingly shaped rocks of wollastonite (Japanese Keikaiseki ), a calcium silicate, which is a National Natural Monument as part of the cultural heritage protection law ). This in turn is reflected in the name of " Rock Mountain Temple ". The temple stands on a slope on a wooden frame, similar to the Kiyomizu -dera in Kyoto, although not quite as large. The current building ( National Treasure ) in 1602, donated by Yodogimi, Toyotomi Hideyori mother. Worship is the Nyoirin Kannon (如意轮 観 音).

The pagoda on the top of it in Tahōtō - style ( National Treasure ) comes from the Kamakura period; it was founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo. From the Kamakura period also, the engi Ishiyamadera (石 山寺 縁 起; 7 scrolls ), a report on the construction and history of the temple worship.

On the hill overlooking the Lake Biwa, the pavilion Tsukimi -tei is located (月 见 亭, "moon glance Pavilion" ). The view from there to the Autumn Moon over the Lake Biwa has gone down as one of the Eight Views of Lake Biwa in the art, although the temple is not on the lake, but on Setagawa, the outflow of the lake, which is then called in the further course Ujigawa.
