Ishizuka Tomoji

Ishizuka Tomoji (Jap.石 冢 友 二, born September 20, 1906 in Sasaoka, Niigata Prefecture, † February 8, 1986 in Kamakura ) was a Japanese haiku poet and writer.

Ishizuka came to Tokyo in 1924, where his friend Naka Kohei introduced him as a student at the novelist Yokomitsu Riichi. As a haiku poet, he joined the group around Hasegawa Reiyoshi. Since 1933, he has published haiku in the magazine Ashibi (马 酔 木), which was led by Mizuhara Shūōshi. At the same time he began to work for the publisher Tembōsha, magazine Buntai (文体) surrendered and joined the writers group Hotaka Tokuzo to.

In 1935, he founded the publishing Sara and published works of Yokomitsu Riichi, Kawabata Yasunari, Nakamura Kusatao and Ishida Hakyō. With Ishida, he founded the haiku magazine Tsuru (鹤). With the publication of his anthology HOSUN Kyojitsu (方寸 虚 実) 1940 Ishizuka gained recognition as an important haiku poet. Since 1942, he also became known as a novelist. After the death of Ishida 1969 he became director of the magazine Tsuru.
