Ishme-Dagan I

Isme - Dagan I ( Ischme - Dagan, Isme - Dagan ), 1778-1744 BC (middle chronology ) or 1714-1680 BC ( short chronology ) was the 40th Assyrian king.

He was the son of Samsi -Adad I. The seat of government of Isme - Dagan I was Ekallatum, near Ashur. He reigned forty years, Landsberger (1954 ) but expects a six-year, in which he was viceroy of his father in Ekallatum. Also Reade believes it is possible that his reign partially overlapped with that of his father Samsi -Adad. According to the Mari letters he was driven by an Elamite invasion from Ekallatum in the ninth year of the reign of Zimri- Lim, and fled to the court of Hammurabi in Babylon, where he fell seriously ill. His death was probably first in the 31st year of the reign of Hammurabi.

His successor was named after the King List, Ashur dugul. A copy of the list, £ 9812, calls his son mother Askur and Re -mu - [ x] as his successor, both of which do not show up in the other lists. Landsberger is actually increasing at a third king after Re -mu - [ x], whose name has not been preserved. Documents from Mari might confirm the Government of Courage Askur.
