Isidore of Miletus

Isidor (os) of Miletus (* 442, † 537 ) was a late ancient architect, physicist and mathematician.

Together with Anthemius of Tralles he built the Hagia Sophia on behalf of the Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I. The main church of Constantinople Opel is one of the last great monuments of the ancient world. Before that was at the same place the great Basilica of Theodosius, which had been destroyed during the Nika revolt in 532.

Isidore taught physics in Alexandria and later at the University of Constantine Opel. He also wrote in a commentary on the ancient Greek work now lost over the vault of Heron of Alexandria. Isidore Isidore of Miletus Nephew the Younger rebuilt the collapsed on May 7, 558 dome in the years to 563 in its present, somewhat altered form again.
