Ismael Rivera

Ismael Rivera (born 5 October 1931 in Loiza Aldea, Puerto Rico; † 13 May 1987) was one of the most influential singers of Puerto Rico. He was in the 1950s, very popular in the Caribbean.

Life

Since his childhood he played with his friend Rafael Cortijo, with whom he recorded several successful plays from 1954. His distinctive and expressive voice was soon known throughout the Caribbean. In the 1970s, Rivera was already a legend. He promoted several young salsa musicians such as Rubén Blades and Ismael Miranda and became the model for many others.
