Itamar Franco
Itamar Augusto Cautiero Franco ( born June 28, 1930; † July 2, 2011 in São Paulo) was a Brazilian politician. He was on 2 October 1992 to 31 December 1994 President of his country.
Life
Itamar Franco was born on a trip from Salvador to Rio de Janeiro on the high seas. His birth was registered in Salvador da Bahia, where his widowed mother lived at this time. His family came from Juiz de Fora in the state of Minas Gerais. He grew up there and graduated in 1955 his degree in engineering from the University of Juiz de Fora. Franco was from 1967 to 1971 mayor of the city and then again from 1973 until 1974. He gave the office up and successfully ran as a representative of Minas Gerais for the Senate.
Later, Franco was one of the most important politicians in Movimento Democrático Brasileiro, the " Brazilian Democratic Movement ". This was the official opposition group during the military dictatorship ( 1964-1985 ). After he was re-elected as a senator in 1982, he was defeated in the election for governor of Minas Gerais in 1986, where he competed as a candidate of the Liberal Party (PL).
After 1989 he became Vice President, he followed Fernando Collor de Mello in 1992 after the president when he came to corruption case. After his presidency, he served from 1995 to 1997 as his country's ambassador in Portugal. In the gubernatorial election in 1998, Franco was victorious and was 1 January 1999 the governor of Minas Gerais. On 1 January 2003 he was replaced by Aécio Neves as governor.
In mid-1994, he agreed, the Brazilian Institute of Social Analysis and Economics ( IBASE ), headed by Herbert José de Sousa to donate 400,000 tons of grain, which were stored in the memories of the state.
Death
21 May 2011 was diagnosed with leukemia, which is why he went for treatment to São Paulo in the Hospital Albert Einstein. On 27 June, the hospital verlautbarte in the medical bulletin, that the health status of Itamar Franco deteriorated even more by services being pneumonia. He died on the morning of 2 July 2011.
