ITC Avant Garde

Avant Garde is a font that was designed by the graphic designer Herb Lubalin. The font is one of the most famous typefaces in the 1960s.

History and Use

The font was originally designed for a fashion magazine. More cuts and variants were designed by the typographer Ed Benguiat, André Gürtler, Erich Gschwind and Christian Mengelt. Due to its unusual shape, the new font was a proliferation worldwide. The mass use without appropriate licensing subsequently led to the founding of International Typeface Corporation.
