Itō Line

The Itō Line (Japanese伊 东线, Itō - sen) is a railway line and on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. It runs from Atami on the Tōkaidō Main Line parallel to the east coast of the mountainous peninsula south to Itō and is from JR Higashi- Nihon (JR East) operated.

History

The first section of the Itō Line from Atami to Ajiro in 1935 taken from the Japanese government in operation. In 1938 the line was extended to Itō. 1956 opened the Izu kyuko K. K. ( Izukyu ), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tōkyō kyuko Dentetsu ( Tōkyū ) their line of Itō according to Shimoda. Combine the two lines the most important cities of the peninsula - beside Izu, which was developed by the Izu Hakone tetsudō further west - to the railway network in Japan.

Was two-pronged expand the section between Atami and Kinomiya, which runs parallel to the Tōkaidō Main Line, the state railway ( Kokutetsu ) 1968. 1987 was the track in the division and privatization of the state railway to the JR Higashi- Nihon.

Line traffic

The local trains of the Izu - line, most of which are continuous from Atami to Shimoda, run about twice an hour. Some trains go further to the north on the Tōkaidō Main Line in the direction of Tokyo.
