Itsunori Onodera

Itsunori Onodera (Japanese小 野寺 五 典, Onodera Itsunori; born May 5, 1960 in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( Kishida faction ), Member of the Shūgiin, the lower house of the national parliament for the constituency of Miyagi 6 and since 2012 Minister of Defence in the second cabinet of Shinzō Abe.

Onodera studied at the School of Oceanographic Oceanographic University of Tokyo and was named after his degree in 1983 in Miyagi Prefecture official. In 1990 he left the prefectural government, and Matsushita Seikei Juku research at the same time he studied at the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo, from which he graduated in 1993. From 1994 he taught at the Tohoku Fukushi Daigaku.

His active political career began Onodera 1997, when Fukujirō Kikuchi, LDP MP for the 6th constituency, resigned because of a violation of the electoral law. In the resulting by-election Onodera candidate for the LDP and prevailed against the Independent Masamitsu Ōishi. In 2000, Onodera had even resign because of a violation of the electoral law and accept a three-year limitations of his right to vote; in the re -election Ōishi became his successor. Then researched Onodera for two years at Johns Hopkins University and was on the board of the Foundation that a specialized school ( Senmon Gakko ) in Kesennuma active.

In the regular Shūgiin - election in 2003 Onodera stepped in again in the constituency Miyagi 6 and won clearly against Ōishi, now a Democrat. The constituency he could then defend in three other elections in a row.
