Source, stream, estuary

The creek originates in the Bergische Land. The so-called " Holy Born" near the house Grünewald and the gang mill in Solingen Graefrath as its source is interpreted. From here on, the Itter flows through the Ittertal with his eponymous theme park (including a carousel from 1920 ) in a westerly direction.

Numerous water mills, hammer mills cotta and accompany the Itter in this valley cut ( New cotta, Bastianskotten, Ernenkotten that Breidenmühle that Heidberger mill and the Bruchermühle ). The Itter here forms the boundary between Solingen and Haan. The Ittertal follow the Caspersbroich castle and the railway embankment of the line between Cologne and Wuppertal, before the Ittersbach now entering into the less hilly Ohligser heath and various fish ponds fed. After the Itter has flowed through the town of Hilden, Horster the volumes are flushed with the Horster Mühle. The creek, heavily straightened from Hilden, now reaches Benrath, where he supplied the ponds and pond of the famous Benrather castle with water, before he south-west of the castle park from the east underground flows into the Rhine. A small portion is diverted within the park and flows over the Urdenbacher village green as so-called Angersbach the Old Rhine.

Until the construction of Benrath Palace (1756-1768) of Ittersbach took another river, it flowed through the town Benrath, then towards Holthausen, castle Elbroich (here, the moat was fed ), and continue to access the same Dorfitter where the then and 1756 led to the Rhine.
