Ivan II of Bulgaria

Ivan Kommenos Dukas Palaiologos Smilez ( Bulgarian Йоан Комнин Дука Палеолог Смилец ), short Smilez Ivan IV or Ioan Smilez ( Bulgarian Иван IV Смилец; * in the 13th century in Tarnovo, † 13th century) was for a short time Tsar of Bulgaria from the Smilez home.

Ivan IV was the son of Tsar Smilez and his wife Smilzina Palaiologos. He followed in 1298 after the death of his father on the Bulgarian throne. Since he was still a minor, his mother and Eltimir, the despot of Crane, who was married to the sister of Ivan, a regency formed.

The death Nogais, the Khan of the Golden Horde, sparked by 1299 between his sons and Chaka Toktai battles. Chaka lost and fled with his wife (daughter of Georgi I. Tartar, brother of Eltimir ) and Todor Svetoslav to Bulgaria, where he occupied the throne of Ivan Smilez in the fall of 1299.

Ivan IV fled with his mother over crane to Constantinople Opel. For more information on the life of Ivan Smilez were not delivered. It's just proves that were staying in Constantinople Opel Radoslaw and Wojsil, Ivan's uncles.

After the escape of Ivan IV Smilez Chaka Khan was the Bulgarian rulers. However, he was overthrown by Todor Svetoslav already in 1300.
