Ivan Karayotov

Ivan Dimitrov Karajotow (common transliteration: Ivan Dimitrov Karayotov, Bulgarian Иван Димитров Карайотов; born December 20, 1941 in lots at Ljubimez ) is a Bulgarian archaeologist and historian. He mainly deals with the history of the Burgas region. He lives and works in Burgas.

Life

Ivan Karajotow was born in batches ( Oblast Haskovo ). With the founding of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, his parents moved to Burgas, where Ivan finished high school. Between 1963 and 1965 he studied for five semesters theology at the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, then Classical Archaeology. In this subject, he completed his studies there in 1971 and then worked as an archaeologist at the City Museum of Sandanski.

Since April 1972 Karajotow is Director of Archaeology of the Regional Museum of Burgas. He received his doctorate in 1985 in Sofia with a dissertation on the coinage of Mesembria and 1991 he was awarded the professorship. Since December 2005 Karajotow teaches Classical Archaeology and other archaeological disciplines at Constantine Preslawski University in Shumen.

2001 Karajotow was awarded the honorary citizenship of the city of Burgas.

In 2011, he was with Stojan Rajtschewski and Mitko Ivanov the История на Бургас. От древността до средата на ХХ век ( German: . History of the city of Burgas From antiquity to the mid-20th century ) out. The work covers only the period up to 1945 and is one of the most comprehensive books on the history of the city of Burgas.
