Ivie Anderson

Iva " Ivie " Anderson (* July 10, 1905 in Gilroy, California as Iva Smith, † at December 27, 1949 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz singer.

As a child she received vocal training in a convent school and later studied for two years singing in Washington, DC. In 1922 she was discovered; then Anderson has appeared in various California night clubs, also in Vudeville shows and went with them on tour, including with Mamie Smith. By 1930, they toured with various bands through the U.S. and Australia, has performed in the Cotton Club in New York and Los Angeles as well as at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, where she was the first black singer of with a white band, the orchestra Anson Weeks occurred;
