The Ivindo was below Makokou first time during a whitewater expedition traveled in 1998. This was a group of people from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which consisted of Chris Guier, Bruce Hayse, Louise Lasley, Marilyn Olsen, Rick Sievers and Howie cloud. The expedition discovered four impressive waterfalls: the Kongue, the Mingouli, the Tsengue and the Leledei waterfall and an unnamed or undescribed waterfall between Mingouli and Tsengue Leledei, which is probably the nicest of all. There are many white water sections and the shorelines were occupied by intrepid elephants and other animals.
