Ivo Ćipiko

Ivo Ćipiko ( born January 13, 1869 in Kastel Novi, † September 23, 1923 in Kastel Novi ) was a Serbian writer of Croatian origin.

Life

Ćipiko came from an old Dalmatian patrician family that had Kastel Novi once founded. The place is situated on the Adriatic coast near Split. As a writer he described mainly his native Dalmatia world, but since he had turned to the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian language, he is regarded as representative of the Serbian literature, more precisely the Serbian realism. The transformation of the old patriarchal relations of Dalmatia and Serbia in modern times is the theme of his works. He wrote mainly prose, besides also memoirs and journalistic works. The main work is considered the socially critical novel " spiders " ( Pauci ).
