Ivo de Figueiredo

Ivo de Figueiredo Bjarne ( born April 30, 1966 in Langesund ) is a Norwegian historian and biographer.

Life and work

After his philosophical examination, he studied religion, history and Nordic literature at the University of Oslo. In 1994, he completed a master's degree in history with a dissertation on the National Socialist Party Nasjonal Samling.

His debut was Fredrikstad bys historie VI. Mot et nytt årtusen (1999), the sixth volume of the series on the history of the Norwegian city of Fredrikstad. For the biography of Johan Bernhard Hjort Fri man he received the Norwegian Literary Award Brageprisen. In 2002, he co-wrote with Hans Olaf Brevig a book about fascism in Norway. In the years 2001-2003 he wrote three articles for the biographical encyclopedia Norsk biografisk leksikon.

In 2006 he published the first volume of a biography of Henrik Ibsen. In the same year he wrote another book about Ibsen, that was addressed to young people. 2007 appeared the second volume of the biography of Ibsen. The biography has received good reviews. A book about Henrik Wergeland, which was intended for young people, appeared in 2008. Figueiredo for this book has received the textbook Prize for Children's and Youth Literature of the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and clergy.
