Ivo Pogorelić

Ivo Pogorelich ( Serbo-Croat Ivo Pogorelić; born October 20, 1958 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian pianist.

Career

His education began at the piano Ivo Pogorelich, son of a double bass player, with seven years. He put her in 1970 at the Central Music School in Moscow and later at the local Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.

From 1976 to Ivo Pogorelich was taught there by his future wife, Aliza Kezeradze ( 1937-96 ). In 1978 he won the Casagrande Competition in Terni, Italy, and in 1980 the International Music Competition in Montreal. In the same year he participated in the Chopin Competition in Warsaw and became famous overnight. As a competitor he had not come across the third round addition. The jury member Martha Argerich was so so angry that she left the competition jury with the words: "He is a genius!"

His ballets include Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin.

In the 1980s, he was a highly sought-after concert pianist, who appeared in all the major concert halls of the world solo and with major orchestras. In the 1990s, Pogorelich made ​​gradually scarcer. After a few strokes of fate, such as the death of his wife Aliza in 1996, health problems, he retired first completely from the stage. He is now active again.

Also the festival to promote young artists in Bad Wörishofen that he had initiated and which took place from 1989 to first in 1997, he has made 2003 back to life. In October 2009, Ivo Pogorelich has played as a substitute for the missing Martha Argerich, together with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. For his outstanding play and short-term jump- he earned thunderous applause.

Style

Pogorelich is known for its idiosyncratic, marked by many critics as Mannerism interpretation approach. So he sometimes exceeds the limits of faithfulness. These radical interpretations are perceived by some as an imposition, by supporters as an experience. Recognized is his superior mastery of the highest technical difficulties in some works, especially in his recording of Maurice Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit. In recent years, he has emerged with moving creek and Scarlatti recordings. His recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is second to none.
